Canvas Terms Made Simple
**Gesso** A white primer that prepares your canvas for painting. All our canvases come pre-primed and ready to use!
**Cotton Duck** A tightly woven cotton fabric - durable and affordable. Perfect for beginners and works great with acrylics and oils.
**Linen** A premium natural fabric with a beautiful texture. Preferred by professionals but also great for special pieces.
**Canvas Depth** How thick the wooden frame is (25mm, 32mm, etc.). Thicker = more dramatic when displayed. Standard depth works for most beginners.
**Tondo** Simply a round canvas! Great for portraits, abstract work, or something different.
**Painting Panel** A rigid board instead of stretched fabric - super smooth and stable surface.
**Stretcher Bars** The wooden frame that canvas fabric is stretched over. Already included in our canvases!
**Primed / Pre-primed** Means ready to paint on. All HM Canvases come pre-primed!
