The moment you complete an order for a premium canvas is a moment of excitement. But we know that excitement can be quickly followed by anxiety: will the canvas survive the journey? A dent, a puncture, or a warp from rough handling can ruin your project before the first brushstroke.
At HM Canvases, we consider packaging to be the final, crucial extension of our quality control. The care we pour into handcrafting your Tulipwood frame and preparing your canvas is matched by the meticulous process we use to protect it. This isn't generic shipping; it’s a multi-layered shield designed for a flawless arrival at your easel.
Internal Protection: Guarding the Surface
Our goal is to ensure the delicate gessoed surface and the structural integrity of the frame remain pristine. We start by focusing on the most vulnerable areas:
Surface Shielding: We never allow the canvas face to touch rough packing materials. Instead, we use a protective shield of heavy-duty cardboard cut precisely to the size of the canvas face. This ensures any external pressure is diffused, guaranteeing the gesso remains smooth and flawless.
Corner Reinforcement: The corners of a frame are the primary point of impact during transit. Rather than relying on generic plastic caps, we reinforce these critical areas with multiple layers of heavy-duty cardboard, strategically folded and secured. This adds dense, localized impact resistance right where it’s needed most.
Structural Wrap: With the surface and corners secured, the canvas is enveloped in a generous layer of thick, industrial-grade foam sheeting or large-cell bubble wrap. This acts as a primary shock absorber, providing the frame with an insulating buffer against impact. This step complements the natural stability of our Tulipwood frames, giving the entire structure an excellent head start against rough handling.
The Exterior Shell: Zero Movement, Maximum Security
Movement inside the box is the number one cause of damage. Our exterior packaging strategy eliminates this risk through custom sizing and high-grade materials, and importantly, we do not use loose void fill or packing peanuts.
We achieve maximum security through two key structural details:
Custom Fit, Zero Movement: We use custom-made, heavy-duty corrugated cardboard boxes that are sized for a secure, snug fit around the wrapped canvas. This precision fit immobilises the canvas entirely, ensuring it cannot shift, slide, or vibrate within the box, which is the most effective way to guarantee zero internal damage.
Crush Resistance: Every box we use is made from heavy-duty, double-walled cardboard. For exceptionally large, high-value, or fragile orders, we can take protection further by customising the boxes for double thickness (multi-layered construction). This provides unparalleled crush resistance, safeguarding your canvas against the inevitable pressure of the courier network.
Final Inspection and Peace of Mind
Before your canvas leaves our workshop, it undergoes a final quality control check to ensure all layers of protection are perfectly secured. The final box is then sealed with weather-resistant tape and clearly labelled with bold indicators: “FRAGILE,” “DO NOT STACK,” and directional arrows to ensure proper orientation during handling.
The care we put into handcrafting your custom canvas is matched by the care we put into delivering it. When you choose HM Canvases, you’re not just buying a canvas; you’re investing in the absolute assurance that your foundation will arrive at your door, ready to inspire.
Order your next canvas with confidence and experience the HM Canvases commitment to quality, right to your doorstep.
